about.

As a multi-disciplinary artist, printing, painting, photography and textiles are tools as a means to investigate our bodily relationship to the organic world, finding figurative likeness within fabric and our environment. Referencing folds and undulations of body, cloth and terrain, I address the ongoing discussion around objectification of the female body with ambiguity and material delicacy.

My recent work marks a shift away from painting as I favour a more dynamic portrayal of more personal lived-in experiences, taking photographs from significant moments or places within my life and turning them into textile art through uv printing.  This process creates a tangible connection between myself, the artwork, and the outdoors; the significance the environment has on the outcome of the work highlights the gravity of human and natural connection. The art becomes a depiction of my own memory whilst also holding onto shadows of its own creation.

Through this textile printing, my fabric installations and even my manipulation of the painted canvas, the significance of cloth lies central to my practice. This is because of its constant proximity to the human body and its relation to the domestic. The concept of the body being our first home, in the sense of the womb, preserves a feminine touch and signifies our innate desire to shelter and be sheltered. Through my art, I strive to portray this sense of belonging and longing for security from our environment and our own body.

Textiles holds relevance not solely materially but through its long-standing history of being perceived as 'women's work'. Bringing this into the 21st century, on both a heightened and delicate scale, is a celebratory act of the work carried out by women, equally that of proud excellence and of quiet brilliance. Rather than looking at representation solely anatomically, I examine human life through texture and tone. I select a palette that balances the beauty with the uncanny, this duality crucial in understanding the unpredictability of organic existence. Our body is forever in a  state of flux, acting on and reacting to its external environment.
